Antarctic ice sheet is melting faster than expected according to a NASA report- I think they have "faster than expected" and "worse than we thought" rubber stamps for these reports.
The world's largest ice sheet has started to melt along its coastal fringes, raising fears that global sea levels will rise faster than scientists expected.
The East Antarctic ice sheet, which makes up three-quarters of the continent's 14,000 sq km, is losing around 57bn tonnes of ice a year into surrounding waters, according to a satellite survey of the region.
With a mental picture conveyed by alarmist reports of a sheet of ice sitting in the sun and melting it is probably worthwhile to check the
temperatures of the ice sheet mass where any snow turns to ice and remains ice. The temperatures over the East Antarctic ice sheet are more than 20 degrees below freezing all year round and while looking at the interface of the continent with the sea may give warmist headlines and the reality is that Antarctica is not melting - at the temperatures involved it is not possible.
