Melbourne's mayor Robert Doyle is not one to spare expense , having spent a quarter of a million dollars for a new Melbourne logo (which was the letter M) . It is not surprising then that it has been revealed that he spent $50,000 for a jolly in Copenhagen staying in a $1200 per night suite - all to help reduce Global Warming.
While in London, Cr Doyle stayed at the luxurious Hyatt Regency Churchill, where his room was upgraded from standard to "Club King" at ratepayer expense.
Cr Doyle - who rubbed shoulders with Princess Mary and dined with London Mayor Boris Johnson on the trip - yesterday insisted the travel was value for money for Melburnians.
But in case the ratepayers are upset at the carbon footprint of such opulent living it is all OK as $114 was paid to off-set the emissions - of course that also was at the public expense.
"No question now, what had happened to the faces of the pigs. The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which."
- George Orwell, Animal Farm,
